Erweiterungsbus (Bus) mit einer direkten (= lokalen) Verbindung zum Prozessor des Computers. Dies ermöglicht hohe Datenübertragungsraten und eine Anpassung an die Taktfrequenz des Prozessors. Der erste Local Bus des PCs war der VLB (Vesa Local Bus), eine Ergänzung des ISA-Busses, die sich für spezielle Steckkarten eignete, vor allem für Grafikkarten. Auch der PCI-Bus (PCI) ist im Grunde ein Local Bus. In seiner Verbindung zum Prozessor befindet sich allerdings ein Controller, der ihn relativ unabhängig vom Prozessortyp macht. Auch der AGP wird gelegentlich als Local Bus bezeichnet, weil eine Direktverbindung zum Prozessor besteht. Streng genommen ist der AGP jedoch nur ein spezieller Steckplatz und kein Bus.
